How to Crochet a Mummy Amigurumi

How to Crochet a Mummy Amigurumi ๐ŸŽƒ

Make a little Halloween mummy with a rounded body, small arms and feet, and cream-coloured wraps.

Level: Confident beginner
Terms: US crochet terminology
Pattern note: This is an untested, photo-inspired design—not a transcription of the pattern pictured. Finished size depends on your yarn, hook and tension.

Materials

  • Cream or off-white medium-weight yarn

  • A crochet hook that produces tight stitches; try 3–3.5 mm to start

  • Black embroidery yarn for the eyes

  • Polyester stuffing

  • Yarn needle, scissors and stitch marker

Use embroidered eyes if the mummy is intended for a young child. Secure all decorative wraps against the body without loose loops.

Abbreviations

  • MR: magic ring

  • ch: chain

  • sc: single crochet

  • inc: 2 sc in the same stitch

  • dec: invisible single crochet decrease over 2 stitches

  • sl st: slip stitch

Work in continuous rounds unless instructed otherwise. Mark the first stitch of each round. Numbers in brackets show the total stitch count.

1. Head and Body — One Piece

Start at the top of the head.

Begin stuffing after Round 16. Add small amounts as you close the bottom, shaping an upright oval without stretching the stitches.

Fasten off with a sewing tail. Thread through the front loops of the final 6 stitches, pull closed and weave in the end.

2. Arms — Make Two

Round 1: 6 sc in a MR. (6)
Round 2: Repeat [1 sc, inc] 3 times. (9)
Rounds 3–7: Sc around. (9 each round)
Round 8: Repeat [1 sc, dec] 3 times. (6)

Lightly stuff the lower half. Flatten the opening and work 3 sc through both layers to close it. Leave a long tail for sewing.

3. Feet — Make Two

Round 1: 6 sc in a MR. (6)
Round 2: Inc in every stitch. (12)
Rounds 3–5: Sc around. (12 each round)
Round 6: Repeat [2 sc, dec] 3 times. (9)

Lightly stuff each foot. Leave the opening unclosed and a long sewing tail.

4. Assemble the Mummy

Position the closed bottom of the body between the two feet.

  • Pin the feet side by side near Rounds 18–20, pointing slightly forward.

  • Sew around each foot opening to attach it securely.

  • Attach the arms on opposite sides around Rounds 11–13.

  • Embroider two small black eyes around Rounds 8–9, with approximately 5–6 stitches between them.

Check the placement before securing the sewing tails.

5. Create the Bandage Wraps

Make several separate crochet chains in cream yarn. Start with 40 chains for the first strip, then hold it against the body to judge the length needed. Add or remove chains before fastening off.

Leave sewing tails at both ends.

Arrange the strips diagonally across the body, overlapping them slightly. Place a shorter strip above the eyes and another below them to leave a narrow face opening.

Sew each strip down at both ends and at frequent points along its length. Keep the wraps relaxed enough to avoid squeezing the stuffing, but attached closely enough that no loose loops remain.

Use shorter strips on the arms and feet if desired.

6. Finishing

Weave in all yarn ends, check every seam and gently reshape the body.

Your little mummy is ready for a Halloween shelf, seasonal display or handmade gift!
