Round 1: Work 3 sc into the ring. (3 sts)
Round 2: Sc in each st around. (3 sts)

Round 17: (Sc in next 7 sts, inc in next st) × 3. (27 sts)
Round 18: Sc in each st around. (27 sts)
Round 19: (Sc in next 8 sts, inc in next st) × 3. (30 sts)
Round 20: Sc in each st around. (30 sts)
Round 21: (Sc in next 9 sts, inc in next st) × 3. (33 sts)
Round 22: Sc in each st around. (33 sts)
Round 23: (Sc in next 10 sts, inc in next st) × 3. (36 sts)
Round 24: Sc in each st around. (36 sts)

Fasten off and weave in the starting tail. Leave a long yarn tail at the end for sewing if you prefer to attach the hat by hand.

2. Make the Ruffled Brim

Join purple yarn to the base of the cone.

Round 1: Working in the front loops, sc in each st around. (36 sts)
Round 2: Work 2 sc in each st around. (72 sts)
Round 3: Sc in each st around. (72 sts)

Fasten off and weave in the ends. Gently smooth the brim with your fingers. If you want a fuller ruffle, use a larger hook for Round 2.

3. Crochet the Tiny Pumpkin

With orange yarn, make a magic ring.

Round 1: Work 6 sc into the ring. (6 sts)
Round 2: Inc in each st around. (12 sts)
Round 3: (Sc in next st, inc in next st) × 6. (18 sts)
Rounds 4–6: Sc in each st around. (18 sts)
Round 7: (Sc in next st, dec) × 6. (12 sts)

Add a small amount of stuffing.

Round 8: Dec 6 times. (6 sts)

Fasten off and close the opening. To shape the pumpkin, pass orange yarn through the center and around the outside several times, pulling gently to make sections. Add a tiny brown stem with a few stitches at the top.

4. Cover the Headband

With black yarn, chain 7.

Row 1: Sc in the second chain from the hook and across. (6 sts)
Rows 2 onward: Ch 1, turn, sc across.

Continue until the strip is long enough to cover the curved part of the headband. Fasten off, wrap the strip around the headband, and sew the long edges together neatly.

5. Assemble the Headband

Position the witch hat near the top center of the covered headband. Sew it securely through the brim and headband cover.

Sew the small pumpkin beside the cone. For a personalized look, stitch or attach alphabet beads across the front of the hat band. Weave in all remaining ends and check that the decorations are firmly attached before wearing.

Tips and Variations

  • Try black, green, or orange yarn for a different Halloween color palette.
  • Replace the pumpkin with a tiny bat, star, or crochet flower.
  • Adjust the cone height by repeating the increase-and-even rounds before making the brim.
  • Keep the brim flat while sewing so the hat sits comfortably on the headband.
